Soundflower is a OS X system extension that allows applications to pass audio to other applications. Soundflower is easy to use, it simply presents itself as an audio device, allowing any audio application to send and receive audio with no other support needed. Soundflower is free, open-source, and runs on Mac Intel and PPC computers.
Soundflower is a free system extension that lets you channel audio from one application to another. Perhaps you want to take the audio playing in a movie in your web browser and record it using QuickTime's audio input?
The Soundflower extension for macOS must be installed to record the 'system audio' playing on your Mac.
NOTE: Screenflick Loopback is now the preferred way to record system audio on your Mac. Screenflick will continue to work with Soundflower if Screenflick Loopback is not installed.
Oct 22, 2018 Soundflower, for example, is an open-source utility for Mac OS, designed to create a virtual audio output device than can also act as an input. It is great that you can capture the sound from outside sources as well as audio streams using the utility, but you have to download Soundflower from a reputable source and install it correctly. Once installed, double-click and run Uninstall SoundFlower.scpt file in the DMG file. Or Can head to the SoundFlower folder look for Uninstall SoundFlower.scpt right-click Open. You will now see a new window here; click the Play icon as highlighted in the screenshot below.
1) Open Screenflick
Inside Screenflick, click on the 'Audio Extension…' button next to 'Record System Audio'.
2) Run the Installer
Click on the 'Install' button in the sheet next to the Soundflower extension.
3) Go through the Installation Process
4) System Blocks the Extension
On macOS High Sierra, after the installation process is done, you may see a dialog titled 'System Extension Blocked'. This is normal and occurs with all system extensions being installed, due to the new security features in High Sierra.
Why does it say 'Seth Willits'? The Soundflower extension being installed is code signed for security by 'Seth Willits'—the developer behind Screenflick—which is why this name is shown. In fact, if you email Araelium's support address, you'll be talking to Seth directly. The reason Seth's name is shown rather than 'Araelium Group' as you might expect, is due to the way Apple's Developer ID system works, and is the same reason you see many developer names in the App Store rather than company names.

That's It
Once the extension is allowed, you can use Screenflick to record your system audio!
Record audio with Soundflower on Mac. It’s free and open source. I use this as an alternative to Loopback, which is great but has a limitation to record only 20 minutes in the free version. But you can also buy it but it was to expensive in my opinion. To record audio we also use Quicktime player in this tutorial.
Installation
Download the latest release from Github which is 2.0b2 when this post is written, and run the installer.
If you alt click on the sound icon you can see 4 new devices has been added for us to use.
